Orgatec 2024 in Cologne stands out as a key event in the office furniture and workspace design sector. As one of the exhibitors, we were keen to observe the evolving trends in office furniture and how our competitors and partners are responding to these changes. With over 700 exhibitors and 50,000 attendees from 126 countries, Orgatec remains a vital platform for exploring the future of modern workspaces. However, like any major event, our experience this year included both positive and challenging aspects.
Highlights: Strengthening Connections
Although this year’s event was smaller than in previous years, it provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, allowing us to discuss ongoing projects and future aspirations. These interactions highlight the significance of personal connections in business—there’s truly nothing like engaging in face-to-face conversations in an environment focused on industry innovation.
In addition to reinforcing existing partnerships, Orgatec also allowed us to start forging new ones. While visitor traffic to our stand was lower than we had hoped, we engaged in some promising discussions with potential future partners.
Challenges: A Smaller Exhibition, More Targeted Focus
On the other hand, Orgatec 2024 was noticeably smaller compared to previous editions. While it remained a significant event, it lacked the lively atmosphere that once filled the Messe halls. This was particularly clear in visitor traffic, which was lighter than anticipated.
The office furniture industry is transforming. With the rise of hybrid work, the demand for traditional office furniture is changing. Offices are becoming more flexible spaces. Consequently, products that support these changes—whether through new designs or innovative tech solutions—are gaining more attention.
For us, this shift in focus meant our specific products weren’t always in the spotlight. Our solutions are vital for modern offices. However, they may not have immediately caught visitors’ eyes, especially when compared to the visually striking and high-profile furniture displays.
Adapting to New Needs
As office spaces continue to evolve, the industry’s focus is shifting from merely filling offices to creating adaptable, comfortable, and connected environments. With fewer employees and challenges in the commercial real estate market, the emphasis has moved from quantity to quality. Furthermore, offices now need to provide more than just space; they must enhance productivity and employee well-being.
This theme was prominent throughout the event, particularly at the “Work Culture Festival,” which centered on creating sustainable and productive workspaces. This shift aligns with broader trends, as interest in well-being, acoustics, and flexibility increases across the industry.
Navigating Change
Overall, Orgatec 2024 was a unique experience. It may not have been the grand spectacle of previous years, but it offered crucial insights into where the office furniture industry is headed. We gained a deeper understanding of the challenges companies face as they adapt to hybrid work environments.
Although attendance was lighter, it did not yield a large number of direct contacts. Nevertheless, the event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of relationships and meaningful interactions. In an industry marked by change, adaptability and innovation remain key.
